LONDON ASSOCIATES TAKE A BARGE TRIP ON THE
AVON & KENNET CANAL AND VISIT MALBOROUGH.
A long, but enjoyable day out in mid July.
July 16th, on an overcast morning, 48 associates from the London
Plant Region set off on a mid year coach trip to the Avon & Kennet Canal in
Wiltshire. However, driving along the M25, the clouds soon dispersed and the
sun started to shine down.
First stop was Reading Services on the M4,
where morning coffee was obtained. After a 25 min break we were on our way again
for the last part of the outward journey to our barge on the canal.
On
arrival in Hungerford, “Mollie” the Shire horse was waiting to pull us along the
canal from the tow path. The trip was to be approx 4 miles which included a
lock.

Some got out to view the manoeuvre. For a larger

At the half way point in time, lunch was served which consisted of
freshly made sandwiches, cake and tea. Many associates had already helped to
deplete the stocks from the bar!!

Following the excellent two hour trip, we boarded the coach again
and set off for Marlborough for a walk around the shops. Marlborough has the
widest High Street in the country, and a lot of buildings with historical
interest.
Malborough - the widest High Street in
England.
On the return trip home we had our final stop of the day at the
South Mimms Service Area. Given the miles travelled on the M25 during the day it
had been very kind to us with minimal delays.
Back at Grays the early evening sun was still shining
which ended a very enjoyable day. To see a few more pictures, click here to go to London Region's pages.....
