 11th - 15th May Galway Break (Monday-Friday)
Galway is one of the most beautiful areas of Ireland. Situated in the far west with its rugged coastline of a thousand inlets – even a fjord, the Arran Islands, mountains, vast boglands and tranquil lakes, ancient castles, iron age cliff-forts and marble quarries. The location also for many classic Irish movies including “The Quiet Man’ and ‘The Field’. We will have a coach for three days, to explore SW Mayo and Connemara and south to Co. Clare and the unique botanical environment of ‘The Burren’, where Mediterranean and Alpine plants grow side by side At Doolin in Gus o’Connor’s pub there is great food, music and craich!. The fourth day is free but could include a boat trip to the Arran Islands – location of ‘Father Ted’! The trip will be lead by Prof Williams (Geology & Landscape), accompanied by local man Bernie Goggin (Archaeology & Natural History) who will take us to places off the normal tourist track and on a few short walks, and regale us with facts and tales about the landscape and life in the area!
 |
We will stay at the Ardilaun - a superb 4-Star Hotel, with an award winning restaurant and five acres of landscaped
grounds, adjacent to Salthill, Galway’s seaside resort and 15 minutes
walk from Galway town.

20th - 24th September Yorkshire Dales (Sunday to Thursday)
|
An opportunity to walk in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. It is two years since we first visited the area and there have been several requests for a repeat visit. Staying
in the White Lion at Cray for four nights this
is a holiday mainly for "walkers" in Upper Wharfedale.
|
The walks are varied but nearly all include some slopes or hills (2 to 3 boots). Having the proper gear is a must! Walking boots and waterproofs are essential. Walking poles will be very useful on uneven terrain, stiles, etc. Sometimes there is a pub halfway round and nearly always at the end!
For those not wanting to tackle a particular organised walk there is some great countryside and many quaint Yorkshire market towns to visit. These include Hawes, the home of Wensleydale cheese and Masham, home of the Theakston & Black Sheep breweries.
Fountains Abbey is a local National Trust venue.
Hardwick Hall (NT) or Chatsworth can be visited en-route.
For full information about these events, and booking
